(CHAMPAIGN, IL) March 3, 2008 – Dave the Math Dog, who gained fame when he appeared on David Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks, will make a special appearance at Countryside School on Friday, March 14 at an assembly which will honor middle school student Jessica Goode, recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Dave the Math Dog will perform, solving math problems and using his paw to count out the correct answers. This 7-year-old Golden Retriever also understands American Sign Language and numbers in foreign languages.
The United Way of Champaign County will present Goode with a certificate and letter from the President of the United States. Last fall United Way nominated Goode for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and Prudential then nominated her for the President’s award. Goode has given many hours volunteering through the United Way’s middle school leaf raking program, helping create a presentation for students on volunteering, and volunteering at her former school, her neighborhood and the community.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize the best in the American spirit and encourage all Americans to contribute to their communities through volunteer service.
