Anshul Named Warren Junior Chess Scholar
Posted February 28, 2008
Third grader Anshul is named Warren Junior Chess Scholar. The primary goal of the Warren program is to nurture the highest-potential Illinois junior chess players so they can be among the best in the country.
This year, 33 youth chess players, grades K-12, qualified as Warren Scholars, including 20 in grades K-8. Those students will be presented with plaques noting their achievement during the awards ceremony at the State K-8 Scholastic Chess Championships in Glenview on March 15-16. To qualify as a 2008 Warren Scholar, players in Grades K-12 needed to:
•Attain a rating that placed them in the top 50 players for their age or gender on the February, 2008 USCF supplement
•Attain a rank in the top 35 for their age or gender on at least one 2007 USCF supplement
• Play at least 10 rated games in the 2007 calendar year
Students age 10 and up were also required to play at least 10 games at a regular time control in non-scholastic tournaments.
