Our middle schoolers are off on their trip to Puerto Rico - Countryside's first international trip! Our head chaperones are social studies teacher, Mr. Morton and math teacher Ms. Negrón-Santiago (who grew up in Puerto Rico).
The students will tour Old San Juan to learn about the Spanish-influenced history of Puerto Rico. They will also learn about the diverse ecosystems of the country by touring the El Yunque National Forest and the Camuy Caverns, and spending time at a beach.
The group then heads to Ponce on the southern coast where they will tour a coffee plantation and participate in a cooking class. In La Parguera, the students will enjoy a nighttime bioluminescent bay boat tour and a snorkeling excursion. Upon their return to San Juan, they will see the Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve and enjoy more beach time.
Update: They had a wonderful trip. For photos, see links below.
