Thank you for your interest in Countryside School. We currently have two open positions:  First Grade Teacher and Middle School Social Sciences Teacher

First Grade Teacher

About the School: Countryside School is an independent K-8 day school located on a 15 acre campus in Southwest Champaign. Countryside School’s mission emphasizes a commitment to academic excellence and whole child development. Countryside is a caring and energetic educational community with a committed faculty, and experienced administrative team. With an enrollment of 152 students (fully enrolled) Countryside offers a robust hands-on education.

The position: The first-grade teacher serves as the lead educator of first-grade students and shares abundant space in a co-teaching environment with the Kindergarten teacher and students. Small class sizes and plentiful resources create an atmosphere that provides an outstanding educational experience. Comprehensive social studies and science themes guide the curriculum. Through hands-on experiences, the teacher works to make learning come to life for the students in magical ways. The large overarching units provide endless opportunities for the integration of math, reading, writing, and spelling, offering purposeful and meaningful learning. Lessons in these areas are often prepared for small-group instruction, providing for differentiated learning.

  • High competency using and incorporating technology

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Motivate and instruct students in the subject areas included in the School's curriculum in harmony with the stated philosophy of the School
  • Prepare lessons, units, and materials to achieve above
  • Nurture social and emotional development of each student
  • Participate fully in the School's calendar of days and events
  • Engage actively in curriculum development, design, and execution
  • Cooperate and communicate with parents, staff, and School on the progress of each student's growth and development
  • Accurately report student's progress regularly to parents and administration
  • Participate actively in professional growth and development programs
  • Attend and actively participate in all school meetings (e.g., staff, team, and committee meetings)
  • Cooperate with other staff and parents in providing a superior educational experience for each student
  • Encourage and help each student realize his/her unique potential
  • Collegial relationship with fellow faculty and staff   
  • Teaching face-to-face or remote as requested by the administration

Middle School Social Sciences Teacher

About the School: Countryside School is an independent K-8 day school located on a 15 acre campus in Southwest Champaign. Countryside School’s mission emphasizes a commitment to academic excellence and whole child development. Countryside is a caring and energetic educational community with a committed faculty, and experienced administrative team. With an enrollment of 152 students (fully enrolled) Countryside offers a robust hands-on education. 

The position: Middle school social science dives deeper into the topics briefly covered in elementary school social science/study classes. It is within this deeper dive, hands on approach that students learn to become critical thinkers of history and their place in it. Learning to tie history to the present, develop skills to analyze primary and secondary sources, and actively engage in debate about essential questions related to topics and time periods. 

In addition to teaching middle school social sciences, the teacher will join the other middle school core teachers as a Middle School Advisor. Meeting each morning in a homeroom style setting and three afternoons a week to cover a wide range of middle school topics and events.
