Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten classroom is often described as "magical"
Our Kindergarten classroom's nurturing and inclusive environment provides our youngest students with a strong sense of belonging and security. The unique and challenging curriculum is designed to feed the students’ wonder, curiosity, and imagination while introducing them to big thoughts, new ideas, and important concepts and skills that will provide an unparalleled foundation for the rest of their education at Countryside and beyond.
The small class size allows the teacher to create the perfect learning environment where all students are known and supported. Lessons are taught through whole-group instruction and small academic groups according to achievement levels. The teacher provides individual attention and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of the students.
The overall theme in the kindergarten class is Discover. The program provides endless opportunities for our youngest students to discover who they are and the world around them.
“What I treasure most is the wonderful warmth and sense of community. There is a real sense of belonging here.”

Our science and social studies units explore engaging subject areas as learning comes to life through class simulations and creative play. Experiential learning, endless hands-on activities, and integrated lessons bring meaningful (and often magical) learning to life in our kindergarten classroom. When learning about the ocean, you may find a student standing at the helm of a boat “sailing” the seas while discovering the properties of water and the incredible ocean life found beneath the waves. When learning about the Arctic, you may find a student ice-fishing for math problems or sight words, or cuddling up with a “pet” husky, and reading inside a warm cozy classroom igloo.

But kindergarten magic is also found in the small, day-to-day wonders regularly seen through the eyes of five-year-olds learning to navigate their world.
All students at Countryside study a world language. Our kindergarten students learn Chinese for one semester and Spanish for one semester before deciding which language to continue in 1st grade and beyond. They also have PE, music, visual arts, and performing arts/creative movement.
