Countryside alumnus James Vaughen won the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra's 2015 Concerto Competition. He will perform as a soloist tomorrow at their concert in Orchestra Hall at Chicago Symphony Center, Chicago.
James, age 16, is now a student at Uni High in Urbana. His accolades include that he was selected for the 2015 National Youth Orchestra – allowing him to perform at Carnegie Hall and complete a seven-city tour of China with the orchestra. In addition he has performed on "From the Top," a national radio show.
Although classically trained, Vaughen also plays with the Uni High jazz band and with jazz ensemble Mo'Betta. He also performs with his mother, a pianist, for local audiences, and returned in 2012 to perform with Countryside's varsity chorus for their winter concert.
